Have you ever wanted to build your own puppets but don’t know where to start? Are you unsure about how large/small your final puppet needs to be? Where should the mechanism be located and how should the handle be angled? Are you attempting a new technique but are worried about using up all your fancy materials in the testing phase? The answers can be found through puppet prototyping. This class will give you a starting point, a way to test out your ideas before you have to commit to them. Consider this the sketching phase of puppet building.
In this workshop, you will be walked through the process of basic puppet design and how to begin moving from that design to creating a fully articulated, actual size test puppet. The primary materials we will be using will be ones that can be easily procured at home and include paper, cardboard, masking tape, and yarn/string. The idea is to give you a method by which you can easily test your future puppet ideas at home with minimal cost to you.
Students Should Bring: Bring an idea of a puppet, ideally with a rough sketch out description.
The registration fee is for one adult and one child. You may opt to add one additional family member (adult or child) during registration by selecting the optional "additional family member fee". Child Ages: 10+
