Create permanent prints of real flowers on fabric. Steam draws out each plants unique color and shape, which then becomes a permanent print on the silk. Adding another element: students will be introduced to “carrier cloths”. Also called a “dye blanket”, a “carrier cloth” is fiber that has been immersed in a concentrated dye bath and laid on top of the scarf before dyeing. Carrier cloths pull out different colors from the plants verses when using a plain barrier cloth. We will also use the concentrate dye baths to create “dye charged leaves” to add to our eco-printed design. Each student will receive one silk scarf. We will cover the natural dye basics (like how to prepare your fibers); an ecoprinting demonstration with a dye blanket demonstration.

WCC Media Release Policy

We may occasionally use photos of students in promotional materials. Enrollment in one of our courses is consent to WCC using photos/videos of your class participation and/or art work in future advertising. If you would prefer WCC to not use photos of yourself or your enrolled family member, please let us know by filling out the media release form located on our website, and submitting it to wccregistration@worcester.edu
