From glazing to firing, to post fire reduction and clean up, learn the basics of raku firing! This fast fire interactive technique will put your hands on your red-hot ware as it is pulled from the kiln (with safety gloves and tongs!), reduced and quenched, resulting in unique and distinctive colors and surfaces. The workshop will start with a demonstration by the faculty, walking you through the steps of pulling ware and samples from the kiln, providing inspiration and insight. With the faculties oversight you will then glaze for and fire two to three kiln cycles of your wares. Students must provide 6 to 8 bisque fired pieces, preferably stoneware or raku clay body, not to exceed 8" in any dimension. This workshop is limited to six students.

(Resulting wares will not be food safe nor water tight, and should be for decorative use only. Firings will maximize the number of works by each student, but may not result in all wares being fired. Students should be prepared for exposure to heat and smoke while actively participating in the firings)
