Advanced Glass Blowing is intended for students who have a firm grasp on the fundamentals of working with hot glass and are ready to take their skills to the next level.

The first two weeks of this class will focus on refining blown forms while simultaneously working towards becoming a more efficient glassblower: working hotter, thinner, and faster. Mid-week, Wednesday will be designated as practice time. The remainder of the course will be focused on breaking away from the basics and developing personal style. Starting with research into both contemporary and historical glass techniques students will design and then create pieces that may utilize traditional techniques but which are distinctly their own. Demos will be tailored towards the students designs and interests but it can be expected that new forms, the applications of intricate bits, as well as a variety of color applications will be covered. Students who sign up for this course should arrive ready to work hard and problem solve.

Prerequisites for this course are Glass I and Glass II or permission from the glass department head. All clear glass and some colored glass will be provided but students may be need to purchase additional color depending on their projects.
