Learn how to do screen printing on metal using standard 80 grit dry enamels. In this workshop, Peter Grigg will show you how to make silkscreens, fill them with photo emulsion, and expose, develop, and print enamel with them. You can read in detail about the method by going to Ganoksin.com and searching for “Screen Printing Enamels”. This will lead you to an article originally published by Grigg in Glass on Metal, Vol 12, #5 October 1993, entitled “Screen Printing with Dry Enamels”. Everything in that article will be covered in this workshop. In addition, he will go over the details of how to do multicolor printing: i.e., color separation, image registration, and screen control by using Adobe Photoshop or CorelDraw.

Please note that while he can show you how to use those programs, one has to either subscribe to or purchase them. You can however do registration and separations using simple hand drawings.

Each student will get a list of necessary materials and their sources, two 5 x 7 screens, and a 5 x 7 piece of metal, and will use those screens to make a 2-color enamel piece.

Please wear natural fibers (cotton, linen, wool, etc.) and closed-toe shoes.
