Gain greater confidence in your sawing and soldering skills and investigate new techniques in metalsmithing! Through instructor-guided projects you'll learn a higher level of soldering skills and gain technical hands-on experience in working with sheet metal and wire. You'll be encouraged to create more detailed and involved projects such as making a ring, pendant or small object with a bezel set stone. Topics include review of sawing and soldering, salt-water etching, bezel setting a cabochon, roller printing, advanced construction and design and finishing techniques.


Pre-requisite: Intro to Metals 1/Jewelry 1 or Department Permission required (Please contact Julian De La Garza at jdelagarza@worcester.edu).


*Youth ages 14-17 may enroll in this course if they enroll with and are accompanied by a parent or guardian. Please contact the registration office for more information.

For safety reasons we ask everyone to comply with the dress code policy in the Metals Department: Closed-toe footwear (no high heels), pants/shorts must go below the knee, long hair must be pulled back from the face and secured. If your class is scheduled to occur in the evenings after 5PM or if you arrive on a weekend before 10AM, please enter the facilities through our rear, handicap-accessible Studio Entrance across from the Parking Lot. The front entrance and offices lock at 5PM. As you enter through the Studio Entrance, please take a right if you are looking for the Ceramics Studio. Please take a left if you are looking for the Metals Studio or the Multimedia Studio.
