Your Personal Tree of Life

Dates: November 6, 2022

Meets: Su from 2:00 PM to 5:00 PM

Location: 25 Sagamore Road Handbuilding

Cost: $80.00

Looking to the Mexican tradition of the Tree of Life folk art form, you will design and make your own tree of life from low fire white clay. Once formed your tree can be brightly colored through the use of underglazes, creating your own narrative of life, death, the seasons, the past, the future or whatever influence you wish to express as your own personal visual story. Your instructor will guide you in building and decorating your tree, providing examples, demonstrations and one on one support. Once formed and dried, the trees will be bisque fired, then coated with a clear glaze and fired once more. Finished works will be available for pick up 2 to 3 weeks after the workshop. This workshop is for clayworks with intermeidate to advanced skills.

Miryana Mihaylova

"A decade changes mountains and streams might be the right saying for my transition from functional ceramics to sculpture. I paint, draw and hand-build dark branches, wavy coil structures, flames out of shadows, shrubs, and silhouettes.

The objects that I create cast shadows out of which subdued hues of rainbow emerge in the sunlight. Air flows through the forms. The time is passing by, and we are changing with it."
