I make functional pottery for the interaction with the object and the user. The use of line in my work is intended to carry the viewers eyes throughout the vessel. Texture and pattern are used promote exploration by creating a visual and sometimes tactile experience. The creation of pattern is very meditative for me and I want to have that pass on to the viewer through the exploration of the designs. Doing this on a functional object means that it will be used and interacted with, promoting the exploration of the object. The geometric patterning and line work are meant to contrast the rounded and bellied forms. This also allows me to point to the viewer and guide them to certain points and locations on the forms. This is how the patterning and line are used complement each other in a visually appealing way.

Together the use of line and pattern are both things that I utilize to draw in the user and have them explore and interact with the work.
