Screen printing is a stencil printmaking technique where ink (in this case, ceramic underglaze) is pushed through a prepared screen onto a flat surface, creating a repeatable design of your composition. Silkscreen designs can be transferred to the ceramic surface using slip or made directly onto clay. These transfers expose students to the wide range of effects printmaking can have on the surface of their work. Students can expect to learn a range of techniques in creating repeatable images onto screens while making several test tiles and forms using different transfer techniques, and a final self-directed project. This class will take place in the Hand Building area, students may utilize potter's wheels during open studio with an additional registration. A good choice for intermediate to advanced level students wanting to push their surface development.
