Wood Firing Workshop

This intermediate level workshop is for students who want to work independently producing ware for a group wood firing on Saturday October 11th. The firing, including preparation, loading, firing and post firing clean up and review, will be led by Lori Mader, who brings her atmospheric firing knowledge to Worcester through her practice of producing wood fired pottery at Cedar Swamp Pottery, Wilbraham, MA. Students should make work in another class, via Open Studio (separate registration) or independently. All students must attend each session as outlined below and will participate in the day long firing by taking a shift at the kiln. Students should bring a base understanding of surface and form development.

Schedule:

September 15, 2025 630-830 meeting to discuss timing and objectives
September 20, 2025, 10-2 wood splitting
October 1 3-6, glazing session
October 6 load   2-5 loading or beyond if necessary.
October 11 fire 7am-midnight-0100
October 16 unload 3-6
Attendance on all dates is required to participate in the class firing. Please check your calendar before registration.
