Course Description

Learn how to add vibrant colors to your work with powder coating. Powder coating is very durable, cures quickly and is available in any color you can imagine!

On day one you'll learn simple methods to cut, clean, punch and powder coat thin sheets of metal that will become the components of your mobile. Basic spray methods will be shown as well as masking off areas with heat resistant tape to create interesting patterns. Sifting and stencil effects will also be shown. You'll learn to use readily available materials and equipment to spray and quickly bake your colorful components. Sources for tools and materials will also be discussed.

On day 2, with colorful components in hand, you'll learn how to construct your one of a kind mobile! Preferred hand tools, wires and balancing tricks will be covered. Each student should expect to construct at least one smaller scale mobile.

Although the focus of this workshops is on making mobiles, the techniques you learn are easily applied to jewelry and small sculptures! This is a Level 1.5 workshop. Intro to Jewelry/Metals and/or Enamels is suggested, but not required.
