In this advanced glassblowing intensive we will keep our forms simple as we focus on learning the fundamentals of using cane as a decorative motif. Through class demonstrations students will first learn how to set up a cane pull and control the heat and timing needed to pull even, single colored cane. We will then learn how to cut and combine the cane to create patterned "roll-ups" which can either be picked up on a bubble or a collar. As the class progresses, students can experiment with more complex filigrana cane patterning techniques as well veiled cane, and possible murrini. This class will emphasize the importance of teamwork and timing as we must work closely with our assistant to both pull cane as well as properly heat and prepare cane patterns for the "roll-up".
Prerequisite: Glassblowing I required, Glassblowing II recommended
