- Pre-requisite: Jewelry 1 or equivalent or Department Permission required.
For safety reasons we ask everyone to comply with the dress code policy in the Metals Department: Closed-toe footwear (no high heels), pants/shorts must go below the knee, long hair must be pulled back from the face and secured.
If your class is scheduled to occur in the evenings after 5PM or if you arrive on a weekend before 10AM, please enter the facilities through our rear, handicap-accessible Studio Entrance across from the Parking Lot. The front entrance and offices lock at 5PM. As you enter through the Studio Entrance, please take a right if you are looking for the Ceramics Studio. Please take a left if you are looking for the Metals Studio or the Multimedia Studio.

In this 1-day workshop students will be introduced to a variety of different wax carving techniques and several different types of wax. You'll learn to use wax files and burs to create a ring, pendant or small sculptural object. This workshop is for those who wish to learn the basics of wax carving. Jewelry/Metals 1 or Dept permission required.
The mandatory kit includes waxes, spiral blades and consumables.
The Optional Kit ($40) includes an assortment of files and burs which are necessary to carve the wax. If you own most or all of the following items you do not need the kit. If you do not own or have access to assorted wax files, a wax rasp, wax probes and a wax bur set we strongly advise you to purchase this kit during registration or request a list to purchase independently. Every registrant will be expected to complete an electronic form included in their registration receipt acknowledging that they understand and agree to comply with the policies outlined, and that they thereby release the Worcester Center for Crafts and Worcester State University of any liability. This form must be submitted no less than 48 hours prior to the start of the first class.
